That year, he took me to a romantic dinner, order a bottle of fine wine, bought me a box of chocolates, and a dozen roses. I remember thinking at the time, nothing he could do in later years could possibly top those hugely romantic gestures.
How wrong I was!
Nine years ago, my husband arranged a sitter for our two babies and took me dinner. He understood, that I was feeling tired and unattractive. My younger baby was only a month old and I’d spent four months straight on bed rest during my pregnancy. All I wanted that Valentine’s Day was to dress up and go out on a real date.
About six years ago, I was a stay-at-home mom with two very young children. I was also working on my first novel. I was still using my Walk-Man when I wrote. For Valentine’s Day, my husband bought me an iPod and even had it engraved for me. It was a gift that lasted much longer than a box of chocolates. 🙂
Then three years ago, my older sister had just passed away from breast cancer. All I wanted that year was time to finish polishing my manuscript. He gave me the whole day to myself.
This year, it’s my turn. My husband wants a real date with me. He’s not a chocolate-eater, that’s okay, more for me! But I think I’ll surprise him with a night out, just the two of us.
Your turn! What’s the most romantic gesture your lover has done for you?
