The Romance Evolution

Romantic Reads Valentines Hop 2015The first Valentine’s Day I spent with my husband, we were newlyweds. I don’t mean, it was our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple, it was our FIRST Valentine’s Day together, period.

That year, he took me to a romantic dinner, order a bottle of fine wine, bought me a box of chocolates, and a dozen roses. I remember thinking at the time, nothing he could do in later years could possibly top those hugely romantic gestures.

How wrong I was!

Nine years ago, my husband arranged a sitter for our two babies and took me dinner. He understood, that I was feeling tired and unattractive. My younger baby was only a month old and I’d spent four months straight on bed rest during my pregnancy. All I wanted that Valentine’s Day was to dress up and go out on a real date.

About six years ago, I was a stay-at-home mom with two very young children. I was also working on my first novel. I was still using my Walk-Man when I wrote. For Valentine’s Day, my husband bought me an iPod and even had it engraved for me. It was a gift that lasted much longer than a box of chocolates. πŸ™‚

Then three years ago, my older sister had just passed away from breast cancer. All I wanted that year was time to finish polishing my manuscript. He gave me the whole day to myself.

This year, it’s my turn. My husband wants a real date with me. He’s not a chocolate-eater, that’s okay, more for me! But I think I’ll surprise him with a night out, just the two of us.

Your turn! What’s the most romantic gesture your lover has done for you?

Well, it’s not romantic per se, but this year for Valentine’s Day I’m hosting a valentine decoration party for my daughters and their friends. πŸ™‚ I think it will be a lot of fun to build such great memories together. πŸ™‚
